Sagnac interference in integrated photonics

چکیده

As a fundamental optical approach to interferometry, Sagnac interference has been widely used for reflection manipulation, precision measurements, and spectral engineering in systems. Compared other interferometry configurations, it offers attractive advantages by yielding reduced system complexity without the need phase control between different pathways, thus offering high degree of stability against external disturbance low wavelength dependence. The advance integration fabrication techniques enabled chip-scale interferometers with greatly footprint improved scalability compared more conventional approaches implemented spatial light or fiber devices. This facilitates variety integrated photonic devices bidirectional propagation, showing new features capabilities unidirectional-light-propagation such as Mach-Zehnder (MZIs) ring resonators (RRs). Here, we present our latest results functional based on interference. We outline theory comparisons building blocks MZIs, RRs, crystal cavities, Bragg gratings. realized chips, including mirrors, gyroscopes, basic filters, (de)interleavers, analogues quantum physics.

Sagnac interference in carbon nanotubes

The Sagnac interference mode arises when two interfering counterpropogating beams traverse a loop, but with their velocities detuned by a small amount 2u, with vR/L=vF u. In this paper we perform a perturbative nonequilibrium calculation of Sagnac interference in single-channel wires as well as armchair nanotube loops. We study the dependence of the Sagnac conductance oscillations on temperatur...

Sagnac interference in carbon nanotube loops.

In this Letter we study electron interference in nanotube loops. The conductance as a function of the applied voltage is shown to oscillate due to interference between electron beams traversing the loop in two opposite directions, with slightly different velocities. The period of these oscillations with respect to the gate voltage, as well as the temperatures required for the effect to appear, ...

Damascene-patterned optical anisotropy in integrated photonics

We propose, simulate and experimentally demonstrate a method for realizing spatially-mapped birefringence onto integrated photonic devices and circuits. The fabrication method is based on applying a damascene-like process to dielectric film stacks to form anisotropic optical waveguides. An integrated polarizing beam-splitter (PBS) is realized with unprecedented performance: a record 0.52 octave...

Lossless intensity modulation in integrated photonics.

We present a dynamical analysis of lossless intensity modulation in two different ring resonator geometries. In both geometries, we demonstrate modulation schemes that result in a symmetrical output with an infinite on/off ratio. The systems behave as lossless intensity modulators where the time-averaged output optical power is equal to the time-averaged input optical power.
